US court orders a stay on death penalty for military man

Southeast Asia News.Net
Thursday 4th December, 2008

A US federal judge has delayed the planned execution of a US Army soldier convicted of multiple murders and rapes.

US District Judge Richard Rogers made an order for the legal representatives of Ronald A. Gray to file a petition for constitutional appeal.

Gray had been scheduled to be executed on December 10th.

He is now on death row at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, which is where he will stay until further orders are made by the courts.

Gray was found guilty and sentenced to death in 1988.

If executed, he would be the first soldier to suffer the penalty since 1961.
