Hondurans celebrate new government
Southeast Asia News.Net Wednesday 1st July, 2009
Thousands of Hondurans have marched through the capital of Tegucigalpa as a show of support for the new government that replaced President Manuel Zelaya earlier this week.
Mr Zelaya has been accused by the interim president, Roberto Micheletti, of a series of offences from when he was in power.
Roberto Micheletti, who is also the head of the nation's armed forces, spoke at the rally and called on supporters to support the nation's armed forces.
Earlier, the attorney general under the new government released details about a criminal investigation into the ousted leader, who he said is accused of 18 offences, including treason and abuse of power.
He also said Mr Zelaya had been involved in trafficking drugs from South America through the country and would be arrested on the spot if he were to return.
Mr Zelaya meanwhile has spoken at the United Nations in New York, pledging to return to Honduras to reclaim the presidency.
