More flights for Indonesian airline Garuda

Indonesia’s national airline, Garuda Indonesia, will expand its services across Southeast Asia.

The carrier will boost its frequency and capacity to Jakarta and Bali from key regional markets.

In Thailand, the airline will increase its flights from thrice-weekly to a daily service from 25 October. The new daily service will operate non-stop from Bangkok to Jakarta utilising the Boeing 737NG.

The airline will also double frequencies from Malaysia’s capital city Kuala Lumpur to Jakarta in November, upgrading to twice-daily flights from its current once a day service. The Singapore-Jakarta route will see an increase in frequency to nine flights a day from the current seven. And in February next year, Garuda will commence a daily service from Hong Kong to Bali from its current four weekly flights, and daily from Hong Kong to Surabaya from its current three weekly flights.

“This expansion is in line with Garuda Indonesia’s five-year ‘Quantum Leap’ strategy to increase the number of international departures by more than 300% to 1,222 a week by 2014,” said Iswandi Said, the airline’s Senior General Manager – Area Asia, Europe & Middle East.

From this month, the Indonesian carrier will operate its new 222-seater A330-200 aircraft from Singapore and Hong Kong to Jakarta which features the airlines new ‘Nature’s Wing’ livery.
