SYDNEY, Australia - Stocks across Asia rose on Monday in a positive start to the week.
Gains however were modest.
The British pound rallied to a seven-month high, approaching the 1.3200 level as polls released on the weekend showed Boris Johnson's Tories in front as the country heads for a General Election.
In Japan the Nikkei 225 jumped 76.30 points or 0.33% to 23,430.70.
China's Shanghai Composite edged up 2.46 points ot 0.08% to 2,914.48.
The Australian All Ordinaries added 22.90 points or 0.34% to 6,836.40.
The pound last traded near it's highs at 1.3167. The euro was unchanged at 1.1062. The Japanese yen inched higher to 108.57. The Swiss franc was a tad weaker at 0.9904.
The Canadian dollar rose slightly to 1.3255. The Australian dollar fell slightly to n0.6832. The New Zealand dollar was a fraction lighter at 0.6557.
