DHAKA, Bangladesh - The management of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) has stated that the situation is no longer favorable due to a one-point fast-unto-death demand for the removal of Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof. Farid Uddin Ahmed.

The protesting students have refused to participate in any discussion or respond to any questions until the VC is dismissed.

The students have been protesting since January 13, and six of the 24 students were very ill on the second day of the hunger strike, with seven hospitalized thus far.

The agitating students said earlier in January that they wanted to ensure their basic rights, such as improving the quality of food in the dining room, healthy water, keeping the hall toilets and bathroom always clean, lowering the price of food in the canteen, increasing WiFi speed, allowing guardians (mothers) to enter if someone is sick, and not allocating more than four students to each room of the hostel in the first place.

Instead of considering the students' concerns, the provost of the hall, and later, the VC, misbehaved with them and threatened them with consequences, forcing students to protest.
