DHAKA, Bangladesh - The Haji Yunus Ali School and College in Ashulia, Savar, has suspended a student hanging out with Ashraful Islam Jitu, the student accused of murdering teacher Utpal Kumar Sarker.

After classes and exams were suspended for a week following the incident, Principal Saiful Hasan stated that the authorities would decide on her future in the institution pending the outcome of the police investigation.

According to Saiful, Jitu, 19, was expelled, and the girl was suspended due to decisions made by the institution's academic council on Thursday. "She will also be expelled if discovered involved in the murder investigation."

Jitu is accused of assaulting Utpal, a political science teacher, with a cricket stump on June 25 at the institution. Two days later, the teacher died in the hospital.

According to the Rapid Action Battalion, Jitu, a 10th-grader, attacked Utpal to demonstrate "heroism" to the girl, an 11th-grader.

As the chairman of the institution's disciplinary committee, Utpal used to advise or take action against students who violated school norms and values.

Utpal reportedly told Jitu a few days before the attack not to hang out with the girl in public, especially on school grounds, which enraged Jitu and led to him assaulting the teacher.

Jitu's father, Ujjal Hossain and Jitu were remanded in custody.
