BIRMINGHAM, UK - Arshad Nadeem was hailed by the entire country late Sunday for his outstanding performance in the Commonwealth Games (CWG), where he won the gold medal for Pakistan in the javelin throw competition.
This is Pakistan's second gold medal in the Commonwealth Games 2022. Weightlifter Nooh Dastagir Butt had previously won gold for Pakistan with a record lift of 405kg.
Nadeem set a new record in the first round of the javelin throw final with an 86.81-meter throw.
However, in his fifth attempt, the Olympian set a new CWG record of 90.18m throw, becoming the first Pakistani to do so.
This was amazing against all odds, with his throwing elbow heavily taped due to injury.
Nadeem also surpassed India's Neeraj Chopra's Tokyo Olympic throw of 87.58m (Gold) and World Athletics Championship throw of 88.13m.
The entire Pakistani nation, including the president, PM, and Army Chief, took to Twitter and praised the athlete for his outstanding performance at the Commonwealth Games.
