BEIJING, China: Following a meeting between their foreign ministers, China and Nepal have agreed to build the Trans-Himalayan Multi-Dimensional Connectivity Network, the Chinese foreign ministry announced.

During a regular media briefing in Beijing last week, Wang Wenbin, spokesperson at the foreign ministry, said Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced that China would finance the feasibility study for a China-Nepal cross-border railway and send experts to Nepal to conduct surveys this year.

Part of China's Belt and Road initiative, the network will involve the construction of railways and communication networks.

China and Nepal advanced their relationship to a "strategic partnership" during President Xi Jinping's historic visit to Nepal in 2019.
